Fully Fund the CSU Message text: I strongly oppose the proposed cuts to the California State University Budget including: • $312.9 Million proposed cut to the current 2008-09 budget and the proposed cut of $283.6 Million to the 2009-10 CSU budget of funding promised under the Governor’s Higher Education Compact. • Denial of public higher education access to more than 20,000 first year students to the CSU in two years. The door is being closed, for the first time in the history of the CSU, due to the State’s failure to adequately fund the CSU in the 2008-09 and 2009-2010 budget. • A 10% Fee hike is proposed for 2009-2010; if adopted this will be the seventh fee hike in eight years, adding up to a cumulative fee hike of 135% for undergraduates and 175% for graduate students since 2002. • $87.5 million proposed cut to need-based financial aid and the complete elimination of the Competitive Cal Grant program.
